Rev. Canon Duncan Mugumya, the commissioner for physical planning and sports asked school proprietors to instill patriotism values among learners as well as developing their talents in different sports fields. He made the remarks while passing out patriots of Kitala Secondary School in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district.
According to Rev. Mugumya, patriotism is very essential to not only a category of people but to everyone “because it is the feeling of love, devotion, and a sense of attachment to a country.”
He lauded the leadership of Katabi town council, the board members, and the school administration for preaching patriotism to students of Kitala secondary school as another way of nurturing the learners.
“This is very good for our students because they are trained to love themselves, to love others, the school, and the country at large. When love prevails in all that, then we have transformed because patriotism will help a learner to focus and plan for the future,” he added.
The commissioner urged other school heads to benchmark from Kitala SS, saying the education ministry remains committed to supporting patriotic campaigns and activities in order to ensure a strong mindset for learners at all levels of education.
Ronald Kalema, the Katabi Town Council chairperson also lauded the the students for withstanding the rain and other challenging weather conditions in order to put up with their lessons and activities.
“This is one of the indicators that you have joined what you want and I also thank you for the unity and uniformity during the parade. Am very confident that some of you will be security officers in years to come,” he said.
The school headteacher Joseph Luswata highlighted that through such trainings, patriotism is such an avenue for everyone to exercise skills as well as improve their love for the country.
Arnold Nuwagaba, a senior three student and parade commander said, after the completion of patriotism training, they have learned the ideology of patriotism, the importance of patriotism, and how to apply such principles.
He therefore, encouraged fellow learners to join patriotism so that the country could be built stronger and safer in terms of security and development in respect of the Ugandan motto “For God and My Country.”
