Beyond goals and medals, the 3rd Alumni Sports Edition at Entebbe Parents Secondary School this weekend doubled as a platform for community dialogue on climate action, health, and keeping girls in school.
The annual event, held in the heart of Entebbe, brought together old boys, old girls, current students, parents, and local leaders for a day of athletics mixed with sensitisation sessions.
Attending as the chief guest, Stephen Shyaka Gashaija, the MP for Entebbe Municipality, donated cement and pledged to continue working with the school community until the project is complete.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to investing in education, promoting sports, developing youth talent, and creating employment opportunities for young people in Entebbe Municipality.
Mpunge Mike, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, said the alumni deliberately designed the gala to serve a bigger purpose.
“It is not only sports,” he explained. “We are sensitising the community around the school about conservation and climate change, running health sessions, and making sure the girl child stays in school.”

Founded in 1977, Entebbe Parents Secondary School has remained an educational anchor in the municipality, producing graduates across different sectors and continuing to shape the area’s social fabric.
Former Entebbe Municipality MP contestant Andama Rogers and education advocate Jemba Leek Mubarak used the platform to stress shared responsibility for young people. They underscored the role of the boy child in ensuring girls remain safe, complete their education, and avoid early pregnancies and school dropouts.
At the same time, Jemba called for equal attention to boys, saying, “The boy child should be looked after for better moral building because they too need a healthy environment to grow into men of purpose for society.”
The event was organised to mobilise support for the completion of the school’s Art Classroom a project aimed at nurturing creativity, talent, and practical learning.

The 3rd Alumni Sports Edition combined athletics with health education, environmental awareness, and community dialogue positioning Entebbe Parents SS not just as a centre of learning, but as a driver of broader social change in Entebbe.
School leaders said they hope the conversations started on the field will translate into action in homes and communities across the municipality.
