
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has taken part in the 13th edition of the Rotary cancer run which has taken place today Sunday, in over 50 towns across Uganda and over 30 cities in other parts of the world. This year’s run was held under the theme; ‘Spread Magic in Every Step.’

In Uganda, as the main run takes place at the UMA show ground in Lugogo, in Entebbe municipality, runners have been flagged off at the Mayor’s garden. They participated in the 5km and 10km races across the streets of Entebbe municipality. Men and women in each category were awarded differently.

The male winners in the 10km category include Jimmy Akor, Morris Atuhura and Reagan Mukasa whereas the female top performers in the same category include Safinah Nakagolo, Shamilah Nampenge and Charlotte Atukunda. Male winners in the 5km category include Manisoor Sugu, Paul Sserwadda and Godffrey Sentamu whereas Aisha Namale was the winner in the 5km race followed by Blair Apollo.

Other corporate participating entities in the Entebbe run include Rotary, Kids of Africa, Kisubi hospital, Krystal water, Entebbe municipality and Katabi town council among others. Steven Mwanje, the chairperson of the board of cancer run revealed that this year, the organising committee set special targets which were surpassed.

“In terms of runs, we crossed the 50,000 mark and in terms of money, we have so far collected sh2.5b,” Mwanje noted back in Kampala. Fred Bamwesigye, the UCAA director general encouraged participants among other Ugandans to inculcate in themselves a culture doing exercise in order to boost their bodies’ health.

In a similar development, the aviation authority also participated in the 3rd edition of the Rwenzori Tusker Lite Marathon in Kasese district, on Saturday, August 24, 2024. The annual event not only highlights Uganda’s stunning landscapes but also celebrates the endurance of Uganda’s athletes.

Featuring 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km runs, the marathon goes beyond just the race. “It’s about uncovering new talent, championing environmental conservation, and promoting tourism in our beautiful country,” noted Vianney Luggya, the UCAA public relations manager.
