The King of Tooro Kingdom, His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, has drummed up efforts and priority towards education, agriculture and information technology as a recently launched Kingdom’s Vision 2045.
His Highness echoed this on Monday during a majestic visit at Bugiri – Bukasa, Katabi Town Council in Wakiso district, during the official opening ceremony of Crane High School located within the town council.
According to King Oyo, the Vision 2045 underscores a better life and prosperity for the people and Kingdom of Tooro with Education, ICT, and agriculture as priority areas with focus on practical skills training.
His Majesty furthermore noted that some of the youth are challenged with inadequate practical skills and ICT knowledge, which limits them from showcasing their innovative abilities.
“However, it should also be noted that the digital space in Uganda is steadily growing, and this was quickly adapted during the pandemic. Therefore, I take this opportunity to thank your visionary Director Mr. Peter Birungi, together with his entire teaching and non-teaching staff, for the great job done,” the King lauded.
He also acknowledged the strong partnership that exists between Tooro Kingdom and Crane High School that has been manifested through the scholarships offered to students from Tooro Kingdom.
Joab Kyalimpa, the school’s headteacher said, they are particularly proud of their commitment to supporting students from the kingdom of Tooro, who are the majority of their population.
“Through our scholarship program, we have been able to provide opportunities to many young minds to pursue their education and achieve their dreams. These scholarships reflect our dedication to giving back to the community and nurturing the potential within every student,” he remarked.
The headteacher also noted that with the support of the director, they aim to offer more scholarships to deserving students, increase the staff and student population as well as establish another branch to extend their reach and impact.
In addition, Kyalimpa highlighted that beyond academics, they impart essential skills and vocations such as farming, tailoring, carpentry, welding, and cookery to the students.
“These programs equip our students with practical skills that prepare them for life beyond the classroom. It is for this reason that we welcome you so that after appreciating our journey in the exhibitions regarding the new curriculum and, in particular, our skilling program, the students will get the inspiration to commit themselves further and aim higher as they scale the heights,” the head teacher noted.
Peter Birungi, the school director, explained that the school imparts patriotism among the learners whom he termed as the future leaders of this country. “Through their patriotism club, a sense of national pride and responsibility is cultivated in the students, encouraging them to be active and responsible citizens whose love for Uganda is key,” he expressed.
“We also place significant emphasis on nurturing talents. Our training programs in sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, music, dance, and drama provide platforms for the students to explore and develop their abilities. We have represented Uganda in different countries like Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa. We believe that every child has a unique talent and we have to help them discover and practice these skills,” he added.
The Katabi Town Council chairperson Ronald Kalema Basamulekkere expressed his deepest gratitude to the King of Tooro for gracing the event with his presence as well as his inspiration to Ugandans mainly to the youth.
“We acknowledge your profound contribution to supporting and encouraging the youth in farming mainly through your model farm at Bugaki for which you have been an inspiration. Through this work, you have demonstrated to your subjects that you are a beacon of a tradition of hard work and purposeful focus, which among others has inspired the youth to look at the future objectively,” he added.
Crane High School handles both ordinary and advanced-level students with a curriculum fully articulating the aspirations of the Ministry of Education and Sports with the largest population from the Tooro Kingdom.
