Kampala City Council Authority has only hours to look for elsewhere to dump its waste – This follows Entebbe Municipal Council full emergency meeting that sat Friday 17th. August and agreed to give access to Kampala’s waste trucks to their dumping site in Nkumba till Monday 19th.August.
Fabrice Rulinda the Mayor of Entebbe explained that after a request from the Kampala City Council officials, to be temporary allowed to use Nkumba dumping site for a month, he called a full council meeting to decide on Kampala’s request – In the council meeting many factors were considered; the current situation in Kampala, the size dumping site in question, which is small and can’t accommodate the over 1500 tons of garbage from Kampala daily, and it was decided that since they had already used the site for some days, they be given extra four days as they look for else where to go.
In an earlier meeting at the beginning of this week, which was attended by the Municipal Environment Inspector, Caroline Kirungi, Katabi town council chairperson Ronald Kalema, and the Local Council One leadership of Nkumba – Bukolwa where the dumping site is, they agreed to allow Kampala dump their waste for one month, following guidelines of; Using Kasenyi road and entry and Nkumba university road for exist, Maintain all roads leading to the dumping site and No dumping beyond 11pm.
The dumping site that has been closed since Thursday 15th.August and some trucks parked stuck with their garbage is now operating.
Nkumba dumping site in Katabi town council sits on approximately 14hectares and it’s managed by Entebbe Municipality which acquired that land in 2007. The site handles waste generated by the people of Entebbe, Katabi, parts of Kajansi and Ndejje town councils.
