
The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) is Uganda’s tourism window that summarizes the uniqueness of Uganda’s wildlife. UWEC runs quite a number of programs that promote Wildlife education, animal rescue and rehabilitation.
Behind the Scenes program, has often attracted many tourism and travel enthusiasts to the centre. The two-hours education program, has often been perceived as thrilling and entertaining. It gives a rich experience to tourists who visit UWEC. It Is an up-close and personal encounter with various wildlife species such as Lions, Elephants, Giraffe, Chimpanzees, Shoebills among others.
Having undergone through Behind the Scenes program, the 16-year-old Ndhego William Zikusoka, wroke a book Zoo Keeper for Week which narrates his fascinating experience while taking care of Wild animals at UWEC. The book who has since, found its way on the global market, summerises the behaviour of most of the animals at the centre- thanks to Behind the Scenes program.
Other sister programs to Behind the Scenes include, Children’s Zoo where children pet as they learn mainly about various small animals that match their age and Keeper for day which is enjoyed by both adults and juniors. Keeper for day is a 12hrs program that gives a tourist an opportunity for hands-on activities such as preparing animal meals, cleaning and providing enrichment to the animals.
