The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center (UWEC) commonly known as Entebbe Zoo, together with Vintage Collectables Fellowship (RVCF) agreed to promote tourism in Uganda through historical vintage and classic cars.

The relationship between UWEC and RVCF was launched at the animal centre in Entebbe where they also exhibited historical vintage and classic cars among other old-fashioned cameras, radios and television sets.

The vintage car drive was flagged off at the Uganda Museum at around 8am and reached the Zoo at 12pm. With close to 100 rides, UWEC beach compound filled to capacity with different models of old cars. Each of the car owners was tasked to plant two Cycad trees at UWEC, in the effort to embed conservation message with women’s day celebrations.

Dr. James Musinguzi the UWEC Executive Director said, the collaboration with Vintage club was meant to promote tourism not only for flora and fauna, but also historical vintage and classic cars as well as conserving the environment.

Hon. Flavia Kabahenda, the UWEC Board Chairperson who also represented minister of tourism Godfrey Kiwanda, appreciated the vintage club members for choosing UWEC. She called upon the general public to always conserve and preserve old stuff and equipment, as one way of promoting tourism.

“One day I went to a museum in Nairobi where I found the queen’s dress which she wore during on her wedding. Actually, they were two dresses; one which she was supposed to put on and then she reached somewhere and changed her mind to another dress. But both dresses were preserved as some of the vintage things,” narrated Hon. Kabahenda.

Angela Mugisha from vintage club said, they decided to collaborate with UWEC because of its role in conservation and tourism promotion. The collaboration is expected to be renewed every year.
