Rwanda has opened Katuna border which had remained closed for over two years. According to a letter from Rwanda, which was released on January 27, 2022, Katuna border post which lies between the two countries will be opened on January 31.
The development follows the visit to Rwanda of Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, senior presidential advisor on special operations and commander of the land forces of the Uganda people’s defence Forces (UPDF) on January 22, 2022.

“The government of Rwanda remains committed to ongoing efforts to resolve pending issues between Rwanda and Uganda, and believes that today’s announcements will contribute positively to the speedy normalization of relations between the two countries,” read in part the letter.
The communique suggests that health authorities in Uganda and Rwanda work together and put in place necessary measures to facilitate movement in context of COVID-19.
