Hon. Sam Kutesa the minister of foreign affairs this morning met Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), at the Ministry Headquarters in Kampala.

The Minister, welcomed the Executive Secretary to Uganda and commended the IGAD’s excellent working relationship with the government of Uganda as one of its member states.
Hon. Kutesa further appreciated the interventions being undertaken by IGAD in Uganda and the region, highlighting key initiatives in the areas of social economic development, peace and security, migration, environment as well as regional integration and development in the region.
On the other hand, Dr. Workneh conveyed a message of gratitude to the Minister, for the warm reception and hospitality that has been accorded to him, further stating that his intention is to work closely with the Ministry.

He reiterated the commitment of IGAD to deliver on its mandate to promote regional cooperation and integration for the benefit of the IGAD citizenry’s development.
Hon. Kutesa re-affirmed Uganda’s commitment to promoting regional peace and security, regional integration, sustainable development and cooperation with IGAD member states.
In attendance from IGAD were, Dr. John Patrick Kabayo, Coordinator IDDRISI Platform, Lucy Daxbacher, IGAD Head of Mission to Uganda and Phillip Gathungu the Executive Support Officer IGAD. On the other hand, minister Kutesa was accompanied by Amb. Patrick Mugoya, the Permanent Secretary among other senior officials.
