LDU Soldier shoots self

Richard Byamukama 25years a soldier attached to the Local Defence Unit (LDU) allegedly shot himself on Thursday evening. The deceased had just been transferred to Kakindu detach in Katabi town council from Ssisa sub county both in Wakiso district.

A source privy to investigation intimated that Byamukama no.012394 dressed in LDU uniform, was found lying in half spine position, with left hand holding the rifle.

The safety catch of the gun was fully open and the muzzle facing the body,” intimated another source within the police. He reportedly shot himself on the right jaw and the bullet exited from the left upper side of the head.

One Sub Machine Gun (SMG) rifle no.UG UPDF 566104919 was recovered with 26 rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one ammunition in the chamber, whereas one bullet was found near the body.

After cordoning off the scene, ASP Fred Bogere, the OC station at Kisubi police and a team of other officers, extracted blood swabs from the body and the scene. When contacted, Lt. Col. Jane Mukasa, the LDU commander in areas of Wakiso confirmed the incident, saying more details were handed over to police for proper investigations.

Information within security circles indicate that Byamukama was transferred from Ssisa to Kakindu on August 16, after he had lost a bullet. “Even after his transfer, he continued misbehaving when he threw stones at residents of Kakindu,” confided a source within the force.

Police identify body of a man found floating on lake Victoria

In a related incident, the police in Entebbe have managed to identify the body of a man who was found floating on the waters of lake Victoria, a week ago.

Luke Owoyesigire the Kampala metropolitan deputy police spokesperson said, the deceased was identified as Issa Bizimana a Rwandese refugee who was staying in areas of Namasuba along Entebbe road.

Bizimana, whose body was retrieved from lake Victoria at the shores of Botanical gardens in Entebbe early this month, was a coster driver. The body which earlier could not be identified, was of a male adult in an early decomposing state.

The deceased was found wearing a blue t-shirt, black trouser and black shoes. “He had no identification document apart from a green phone SQ model with an Airtel sim card,” confided a source at Entebbe police.

Bizimana had been on medication for quite some time until he informed the relatives that he was tired of taking medicine. He then disappeared, only to find his body floating on water,” revealed a source within the police.
