While receiving 70,000 masks delivered by government, Vincent Kayanja the Entebbe municipality mayor complained about the delay in having the masks delivered to Entebbe, an area he described as a border area, with Uganda’s international airport and lake Victoria. “It is Entebbe hospital that has handled most of the Covid19 patients on top of the area having several quarantine centres and hotels from where most Corona suspects are accommodated,” noted Kayanja.

The municipality mayor however, lauded the government’s commitment in the fight against the deadly pandemic. “These masks shall be distributed to all persons above 6years of age through an exercise that will be conducted by the Village Health teams (VHTs) and area local leaders,” added Kayanja. He further advised on proper hygiene while wearing the masks. Kayanja made the remarks while officially receiving the consignment on Thursday at the municipal council offices.

While handing over the masks on behalf of government, Dr. John Kalyesubula who is also the Entebbe municipality health officer, expressed government’s continued commitment in handling Covid19 cases. He advised the municipality residents to continue observing health guidelines as issued by the line ministry.

Meanwhile, the municipality mayor implored government to consider elevating Katabi Health Centre III to a health centre IV or hospital level saying, Entebbe residents and those from the neighbourhood continue facing hardships in accessing health services since Entebbe referral hospital was reserved for Covid19 patients.
