On May 14, 2020 President Yoweri Museveni passed a directive under the current statutory laws, instructing everyone in a public place to always wear a mask in efforts of fighting the spread of Covid19. The president even pledged that government was to give out free masks to ever person in Uganda who is 6years and above.
Over 30 companies have so far been authorised through the prime minister’s office to produce masks. However, some Democratic Party (DP) youth leaders in Entebbe municipality have come up to protest against the mode of selection to companies and firms that were given tenders to produce the masks saying, the youth have been left out.
The chairperson of the youth democrats Entebbe wing Michael Bunge says, since 2011 government has invested in skilling the youth through different programmes across the country, and thus youth should be given chance in such production.
Juma Mukasa the youth democrats secretary says government should stop looking at only big companies in tender issues, hence youth must be considered too in their respective small groups as a way of having services reaching easier and fast to the grass roots and also to improve on the well-being of the youth.
