A security meeting which was held on Thursday at Entebbe municipal council resolved to tighten measures against all beaches and bars ahead of New Year celebrations. This was confirmed by Godfrey Achiria, the Kampala Metropolitan Regional Police Commander (RPC) South while addressing the media after the closed-door security meeting.
According to SP Achiria, emphasis is going to be put on beaches to avoid drowning incidences among other accidents.
The Thursday meeting was chaired by Nooh Njuki, the Entebbe Resident District Commissioner (RDC). RDC Njuki said, whereas there were less accidents and drowning incidences during the Christmas season, beaches among other happening places will remain closed until president Museveni orders otherwise.
“The directive also binds churches against holding night prayers and places that were hoping to display fireworks,” said Njuki. According to RPC Achiria, police officers who fail to implement the directive, face disciplinary action. A total of 195 accidents occurred during the Christmas festive season from December 23rd to 26th. “Out of these, 51 accidents were fatal, while 93 were serious whereas 51 were minor,” read a police report.
